Bathroom Inspiration - The Tile Shop

I have a bathroom remodel in my future, due to the icky carpet installed in the kids bathroom by the previous owners.
Imagine carpet in a bathroom used by teenagers, ewwww.
The other day I wandered into The Tile Shop looking for inspiration and I found plenty so I thought I would share.
Here's some of the bathrooms in the showroom that spoke to me.
Classic, traditional and beautiful, my kind of bathroom
Four different sizes of marble tiles were used to made this bathroom classically fabulous with a little edge!
Simple subway tiles along with a marble herringbone floor is a great combination of high and low materials.

A mixture of travertine tiles gives this bathroom an earthy natural look.

Even though this bathroom uses a lot of natural stone, it stills looks airy and ultra sophisticated.
Different slate tiles used to make amazing patterns, I'm sure this pattern would also great using inexpensive ceramic tiles
Classic and luxurious, can you spot which tile isn't natural stone?
Hint, it's the floor, the floor is a ceramic tile called "Carrara Gris', paired with natural stone, is another winner of mixing high and low.

They also had amazing tiles for counter tops, Look at the counter top above, doesn't it look great for tiles? It's also very cost effective way of getting granite in your house, especially if you can install it yourself.

Townhouse Kitchen - My First Design Project
When I moved into my townhouse eight years ago, I had a builder's kitchen. Although the cabinets were mid-range maple cabinets they came along with green laminate countertops. I knew I wanted to update the kitchen but I didn't want it to be a trendy kitchen that would be dated as soon as the trends faded away.
I replaced the countertops, sink, faucet and added a backsplash. Since it was the first time I was engaging in a major design decision, I was scared that I might pick the wrong materials. It's not like you can return installed granite back to the store for an even exchange. :) Now six years later, I think the kitchen still looks relevant and hopefully will continue to be for years to come. And I still love my faucet!

Missing in Action
Hola everyone, I'm still here. I know it's been a while and I wish I could provide you photos of all of projects that I accomplished over the summer but alas I have nothing, nada, zilch and I feel fabulous!

South Beach - Miami
Of course it was freaking roasting in the big apple during July and raining like crazy in Florida but we still had a great time.
My budding fashion designer became a real New Yorker over the summer, she took subways, buses, got food poisoning from a food truck, met friends and attended a summer class at FIT. She's currently back in high school missing the hustle and bustle of NY. Below are a couple of sketches of some of the collection she designed this summer.

A Fabulous Update for Seven Dollars!
A while back I purchased an Ikea sofa for $99, after adding a new slipcover and cushion stuffing the cost came to $190. Here's a look back on my shopping adventure here. Even though the sofa was okay, I thought it was a little boring so I decided to give it an upgrade but the cost had to be nominal.
1. Grosgrain ribbon & Stitch Witchery (Walmart) - $7.00
2. Lay the Stitch Witchery on the ribbon
3. To ensure that I had a same space between each ribbon, I used a ruler.
4. Following the instructions on the Stitch Witchery package, I fused the ribbon to the slipcover and Volia, FABULOUSITY!!!!!!
Not bad for $7.00, huh?

I'm always a sucker for a fabulous mirror which is strange because I try to avoid them if I can. I walked into Pottery Barn last year and saw the Eagan mirror and fell instantly in love until I saw the price and promptly got my heart broken. As fantastic as this mirror is, I can't even imagine paying $699 for a mirror.
You could also try to DIY it, here is a great tutorial from the Lettered Cottage.
Although I would love to DIY such a project, I'm scared of circular saws and have had nightmares of chopping my fingers. TMI ?

Home Tour - Guest Room
I'm finally getting around to completing all my half finished projects around the house, and trust me I have quite a few of them. I'm going to try tackling a project each month. We'll see how that goes.
This past weekend I worked on my guest room and I think I'm finally done until my Design ADD kicks in again.

I know the imperial trellis pattern is "supposed" to be last season but I still love it, plus this pillow came from Target and only cost $10. Can't beat the price and the shot of blue has a huge impact in the room.
The wall color is sauteed mushroom.
I purchased the stencil months ago and was dragging my feet because I thought it was going to be a lot of work but it only took around 4 hours for the wall. I used a roller and it was fairly easy except for last row since I had to bend the stencil.
The paint for the stencil pattern was a metallic paint from Martha Stewart and the mirror was purchased from Home Goods.
Every guest room needs a chair and this chair doesn't overwhelm the room, plus I'm a sucker for nail head trim.
I purchased this capiz shell chandelier from Target when they had their last global bazaar event, it was on clearance for $25. This was definitely an awesome buy. I do miss Target's global design event, I wonder if they'll bring it back.
Well that was the room in all it's glory, one project down, countless to go......
