I've loved this Pottery Barn mirror for years but at $699 it's overpriced and the wrong color. There are numerous tutorials to DIY your own mirror but they seemed a little too complicated aka they had math involved and I don't have the patience for measurements. I also have an irrational fear that I might lob off a finger messing around with a circular saw so those tutorials weren't for me. Nope, definitely not for me, I love my fingers.
Then, I saw this tutorial using Dollar Store mirrors and I figured, why not try it? Even if it was a epic fail I wouldn't blow a lot of money.
I didn't follow all the instructions in the link above because I wanted a much bigger mirror and needed a more sturdy and stable backing.
I started with 25 of these mirrors from the dollar store. They're really cheap looking with a plastic frame and they come in black, brown and I believe red.
I painted the frames with Martha Stewart gold craft paint
Since the mirror would have some weight to it and I wanted to hang it, I purchased this kit from Michaels for less than $5 to use.
I also purchased a sheet of 5 MM plywood and had it cut the Home Depot for $15. (no circular saw for me). I screwed the hanging hook into wood on either side and I did pull my level out to make sure they lined up together. The piece of plywood I used measured 43 x 54 3/8.
I made sure the mirrors hung over wood by about 1/4 of the inch on all sides and just lined them up by eye balling them and glued them down using E-6000.
Here's the final product. Isn't it pretty? I only had one mishap when I pressed down too hard on one of the mirrors over the hanging screws and it broke so be careful when pressing down over that area if you are going to try this project. Other than that mishap, it was an easy, peasy project than gives a great impact.
Here's a sneak peak of how it looks in my room. I'm finally on track to finish the room after a gazillion years. Yeahhh!!!

Luxe for Less - Lacquered Side Tables
The other day I ran into IKEA for some storage boxes and what did I spy, high gloss side tables. If you've shopped in IKEA you know that their Lack series of furniture are very popular because of the look and the price. Well IKEA has put a new spin on the series and have created some lacquered pieces in the Lack line.
I'm in love with the gray side table and so course the red and white tables are not too shabby either. The best part is the price $12.99 each piece. Don't you just love IKEA?
(Sorry - the photo was taken with my phone)
Luxe for Less - Marble
Marble is classic, timeless, expensive and beautiful. If your pining for marble countertops but your wallet is crying, how about Formica countertops? Formica you say? Yes Formica, technology has changed the game in countertop design. I was wandering in Home Depot and I spotted the most amazing product... you know what I'm going to say, Yes, Formica.
The countertops that look remarkably like the real deal. The price is around $16 a sq ft from the Formica Corporation which is way, way less than a marble slab. So what do you think, would you buy it?
Doesn't it look like marble?

Luxe for Less - Labels
I love a good looking label and since I'm not a Photoshop user, it's very time consuming way to create nice ones in a regular word processing program. I did create ones for the my daughter's sweet sixteen here, but they took some time. Well here comes Martha Stewart to the rescue, she's teamed up with Avery labels and have created a label line. The line is now available through Staples. Aren't they lovely?
Luxe for Less - January Sales
I love a sale and January is a great time to look for home decor sales. In January, not only do you get the post Christmas sales, you also get the furniture closeout deals as the stores make way for new models. I've seen so many deals on the web so I thought that I'll share some of my favorites. Some of these items have been heavily discounted so if you like anything, grab it as I'm sure they won't last long.
Cheap Last Minute Gift - DIY Sugar Scrub
Did you get up this morning thinking "Oh Sweet Jesus" Christmas is a day away and I still need to get a couple of gifts, or oh crap, I ran out of money and can't afford to buy another gift. Well since I have that pesky thing called a mortgage, (would you believe that bank has the nerve to want it every month) and I'm on a budget, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on Christmas this year but I still wanted to give my friends gifts they would love. Let's face nothing is worst than a scrappy gift.
I like a good sugar scrub and I started shopping around for a sugar scrub to give as gifts, but those suckers aren't cheap. So of course I thought why not make my own because I roll like that. I did a little research and there so many recipes for sugar scrubs to choose from. I tweeked the recipes and came up with my own.
Here's my recipe
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon essential oil ( you can buy this at Michael's or a health food store)
3/4 cup extra virgin oil
In a small bowl, combine the brown and white sugar. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well to blend well. Spoon the scrub into a pretty glass jar and viola, great gift for less than $3.00. I also created my own label to add to the jar.

A Hint of Gold
Here's a 5 min project I did today using a dollar store candle holder and using spray paint.
Cover outside of the candle holder or vase with paper, spray inside of the vase with mirror spray paint, let dry, then spray with gold spray paint and Viola...

A fabulous little candle holder with a hint of gold. This would look great with multiple holders with flickering candles inside.
Luxe for Less - Metallic Paint
I stenciled a room a couple of months ago and I used a metallic paint from Martha Stewart's paint line from Home Depot. The room came out great if I do say so myself. At the time, the paint was only available in quart cans and was fairly expensive for a quart of paint, the bummer was I only used 1/4 of the can.
I'm now planning to stencil my powder room and headed to Home Depot for more paint, because of course I needed a different color. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the metallic paint is now being sold in 8 oz jars and only for $5.48. SCORE! So if you're looking for metallic paint for a small project, head on over to Home Depot.

Luxe for Less - Mirrors & Free-Standing Bathtubs
Vanity Mirrors can be quite expensive, I found a great deal on mirrors that's less than 80% of the retail price and I just had to share. Cabinets-to-go is primarily a kitchen cabinet company, not sure if they're getting rid of the their bathroom stuff but they prices they have to offer are phenomenal specially for the large mirrors.
They also have beautiful free standing bathtubs on sale, if you in the market for a mirror or a free-standing bathtubs run on over to Cabinets- to-Go.

Loving this Light
I was browsing the aisles of Lowes (actually I was looking for water heaters) when I saw this fabulous light and of course I gasped (yup I'm a nerd like that).
Gosh isn't it fantastic?. It would perfect hanging over an island and since I'm always looking for a bargain, the price is spot on. You can own this light for only $119, isn't that a great deal. Loving Lowes!

Luxe For Less - Saddle Seat Bar Stool
I love a good bargain and I have a great one for you. If you looking for a tried and true barstool, a saddle seat barstool, can be used in many different styles of decorating. Pottery Barn has one for $99 - $119 but for an even better deal, Target delivers with a price of $45. That's a savings of over 55%. Happy Shopping!
Luxe for Less - Pottery Barn Eagan Mirror
Welcome again to all my new readers from Better After and HGTV's RMS along with all my current readers. Feel free to poke around my blog and leave comments or questions.
I'm always a sucker for a fabulous mirror which is strange because I try to avoid them if I can. I walked into Pottery Barn last year and saw the Eagan mirror and fell instantly in love until I saw the price and promptly got my heart broken. As fantastic as this mirror is, I can't even imagine paying $699 for a mirror.
You could also try to DIY it, here is a great tutorial from the Lettered Cottage.
Although I would love to DIY such a project, I'm scared of circular saws and have had nightmares of chopping my fingers. TMI ?

Luxe for Less - Dwell Studio Gate Fabric
I can't believe that I've been away this long, but what seemed like two weeks to me was nearly a month. Lots of balls in the air and restless energy has taken over my life in the past month, but as with anything time waits for no one, hence the month long absence from my blog.
Enough about me, I was surfing my favorite fabric site, Tonic Living and found a fabulous deal.
Enough about me, I was surfing my favorite fabric site, Tonic Living and found a fabulous deal.
This pattern is widely known as "Gate" or "Bella Porte" is the 100% cotton version rather than Cotton and Linen blend and is priced at $18.95 vs. the $42.00 price.
Crate and Barrel is currently selling a chair covered in this fabric for $900, if you're a DIYer you can upholster a chair for less than 1/3 the price of this chair.
So run on over to Tonic Living and remember that they do custom orders.
Luxe for Less - Food
Do you use coupons? While I'm not an extreme couponer like those people on the TLC show, for the past couple of months I've been using coupons. I've literally cut my food budget by over 60% which is great since I have a teenage son and we all know they eat like crazy. I'm still waiting for the day when I will only pay $5.00 for a cart of stuff, but until then I'm dancing the jig when I leave the checkout..
Here's a recent Publix receipt, I skipped out of the store after saving $176.81.
The Publix BOGO sales is great way to save money when you combine the coupons with the sale.
Here's a Kroger receipt where I did even better and saved 76%.
I have learned a couple of tips the past few months.
1. Not all Sunday newspapers are created equal, normally on Holidays coupons are not included in the paper. Use this site to find out if coupons will be in your upcoming Sunday paper.
2. The More the Merrier, in order to make a dent in your grocery bill you need to buy at least two Sunday newspapers or more. You can also just buy the coupons for a small handling fee from a coupon clipping service like this one.
3. Combinations are the best, you can combine a store coupon and manufacturer coupon. You can also combine two coupons with a BOGO sale.
4. If your store doubles a coupon (normally Publix will double a 50 cents coupon) then a 50 cents coupon is worth more than 75 cents coupon.
The site I've found most helpful is Coupon Mom. She has a video on her site that gives a great tutorial.
Do you have any more tips to offer regarding the use of coupons?
Luxe for Less - Wassily chair
If you're a fan of modern furniture, I have a deal for you. The Wassily chair also called the Model B3 chair is an iconic Euro-modern piece which have graced the homes of the upper class and has a price to match.
The chair retails for $2,025.00 for here. Okay if I was making Oprah money $2,000 wouldn't seem like a lot of money but I'm not so, $2000 seems like a crazy amount to drop on one chair.
I was browsing through Overstock and found out a reproduction of this chair for only $228.
Isn't that a incredible value for the price? If you're looking a chair like this, head over now to Overstock to pick one up.
I Heart HomeGoods
I love HomeGoods, at least once a week I run in to take a look at the goodies they have. You never know what you will find and the prices are inexpensive. I was walking through the aisles today and loved the mirrors currently being sold. You know I love a good mirror and even though they were calling me, I walked away, because I really don't need another mirror. :( It broke my heart. Anyway if have a HomeGoods close to you, stop by and pick up a mirror.
Luxe for Less - Mirror
So, if you don't know it yet, I love a good mirror, here's a couple of mirrors that would look good in any room.
Mirror above is sold at Williams - Sonoma Home for $195 on Sale.
Isn't it the sunburst mirror behind the sofa fabulous, and at $199 from Crate and Barrel the price isn't bad at all.
But why spend $199 when you can buy a comparable one for $69.99 from good old Target.
Happy shopping.
Luxe for Less - Fabulous Finds on the Web
Hi Everyone, hope you're having a great weekend.
I was surfing the web and found some great deals and I thought I would share.
I would love to buy them all but watching Hoarders scared the living daylights out of me, so I'm only buying stuff if I absolutely need it and I'm walking away even if I love it. :(

1. Overstock Creme Leather Armchair - $255.99
2. JCPenny Cindy Crawford Black and Gold Mirror - $79.99
3. QVC Tracy Hutson 23-inch Glass Sphere Table Lamp - $24.97
4. QVC Linda Dano Faux Leather Open Cube with Nailhead Detail - $119.96

Luxe for Less - Imperial Trellis Bedding
The Imperial Trellis pattern can be seen in everyday design. It's a fabulous look and can be used in many different design styles.
The imperial trellis window panels and roman shades gives this living room designed by Brown Design a fabulous pop.
The wallpaper above featured on Kelly's Wearstler's site, gives the room a powerful punch of design.
The only thing wrong with this fabric and wallpaper is it's price. At over $100 a yard it's very very expensive. Did I mention it was expensive?
If you wanted to create bedding with an imperial trellis fabric the price of over $100 a yard would definitely be a deterrent. I was shopping for school supplies in Target when I saw that Target created a knock off pattern and created bedding. The bedding set looks great. I'm trying to figure out where in my house I can use it.
Most of all the price is amazing, for $99 you get a 10 piece bedding set.
Yeah Target!!
