Design Inspiration: Paneled Walls

I'm currently obsessed with Paneled Walls and I'm itching to add a treatment in my home.

Hotel Es Vive, Ibiza. Interior designers Cochrane Design, London.
Intrigued by the refined look of this molding but at any time there could 10 teenage boys in my house so this might be a little too formal.

Roaring Gap residence, NC. Ruard Veltman Architecture, Charlotte.

I'm digging these Grey Paneled Walls, I love the mix of the old wall treatment and the color gray.

Anne Decker Architects, Bethesda, MD. Tom Arban Photography.

Now, this is everything.  Look at the door hidden by the wall paneling. Genius.
I'm definitely in love and I have to find a way to DIY it because I'm still scared of cutting off my finger with a table saw. Sigh, phobias are the worst.

Which one do you like the most?

Christmas Decorations

Well Christmas is right around the corner and I'm trying to get into the spirit so I finally slapped my wreath on my front door and added the mini trees to the porch.  I'm hoping that seeing them will get me in the Christmas spirit.  Have you put up all your decorations already?

Don't pay any attention to cord in front of the door, the bricks and the crooked picture. I rarely use the front door anyway :).

Luxe for Less - Pottery Barn Eagan Mirror

Welcome again to all my new readers from Better After and HGTV's RMS along with all my current readers.  Feel free to poke around my blog and leave comments or questions.

I'm always a sucker for a fabulous mirror which is strange because I try to avoid them if I can. I walked into Pottery Barn last year and saw the Eagan mirror and fell instantly in love until I saw the price and promptly got my heart broken.  As fantastic as this mirror is, I can't even imagine paying $699 for a mirror.

I found this comparable mirror for 75% less than the PB one at Pier 1 for $149.99

You could also try to DIY it, here is a great tutorial from the Lettered Cottage.
Although I would love to DIY such a project, I'm scared of circular saws and have had nightmares of chopping my fingers.  TMI ?

Adore Home Magazine

Okay, I might be coming to the party late, but I just got a look at Adore Home magazine and can I say, it's fantastic.

Adore Home Magazine is Australia's first online only home and lifestyle magazine and it's chock full of design eye candy from homes all over the world.

The summer issue (yup it's summer there) has elegant rooms from the Hamptons

To sophisticated country rooms in South Australia

To bright and vibrant in Kuala Lampur. Are you gasping yet?

And resources where can you get all the items to make your house fabulous.

Take a trip over to Adore magazine and click on the read tab, it's well worth a look.

My CB2 Trip

I took a quick trip to CB2 today during lunch and the store did not disappoint.

I even got parking in the front of the store. Yup, I took this photo from my car.  Good times, good times.

Here's some eye candy to finish your Monday...

This white slab dining table is delicious

This acrylic table paired with accessories is light, airy and a conversation piece.

Accessories are plenty, chic and inexpensive; don't you love these hourglasses?

Wow, isn't this display fabulous?  It's made up of a coffee table, four mirrors, vases, glass balls and pendants.
Can you believe each pendant is only $50?

Happy Shopping!!!

***Pictures were taken with my phone.***

CB2 opens this weekend!

CB2 is opening in Atlanta this week.  It's a part of the Crate and Barrel family but they sell hip furnishings like the items below.

I'm so making a visit this weekend.

Isn't this marble coffee table a classic piece and for $299 it won't break the bank.

This firefly pendant is modern, funky and would look great over a dining room table.
Can you believe it's cost $199?

I'm in love with their Oso Dinnerware.  It chic, inexpensive and would make dinner time should a little happier plus they only cost $4 and $5.

Don't you love a great mirror?  The Perspective mirror delivers, it's funky as heck.  Love it!

Do you have a CB2 in your neck of the woods, if so do you shop there?

Design Inspiration - Selling New York

Selling New York on HGTV showcases houses the average person can't afford but I watch it anyway for the design inspiration.

Here's some of shots of an apartment that was featured on the show.

When the Design Star candidates were given the Donald Trump challenge, I was expecting the apartments to look like the one below but unfortunately the designs were no where close to this apartment. I'm actually still waiting for them to wow me... it's been a sad season so far. But I digress, back to the design inspiration.

Some of the pictures were taken directly from the television so they're a little grainy... sorry.

This apartment was the epitome of understated elegance but $5.3 million?  It's truly a matter of location, location, location.

Mural Love -- Saying Goodbye

When I moved in my house, my kids were 5 and 7 and shared a room. Since they were different sexes we picked the wall mural below for the room.   Now that they're teenagers and no longer in the same room, we're finally getting rid of the mural.  Removing it from the wall is bitter sweet, but kids grow up and design changes all the time.. So bye, bye mural it was great.

This is the actual wall mural on the wall.

How many times have you changed the decor in your children's room and was it hard to face the fact that they were growing up?

Living Room - Mood Board II

I'm working with my sister on her living room remodel, here's the second mood board I whipped up for her.

1. This West Elm upholstered slipper chair is a beautiful accent chair and will tie the room together.
2. This mirror is a classic and will make the room seem more bigger.
3. Isn't this sofa amazing?  I love a high back sofa with low arms, it means your neck with never suffer and you can plop a pillow on the arms and take a nap.
4. You always need a little bling in any room and this mirror is perfect with it's mid-century modern feel it will be fabulous over the the sofa as art.
5. Awww paint, the cheapest way to make a drastic change, I love this color paint from the Martha Stewart line called Bedford Gray.  Gray used to be viewed as a depressing color but used right it's modern and sophisticated.
6. Ikea always delivers and this piece of art is serene and interesting at the same time and will be a great conversational piece.
7. The fabric from Robert Allen will give the room the punch of yellow without overwhelming the room.
8.  This black chandelier has high impact and will be a show stopper in the room.
9.  This graphic pillow will go really well with pillows made from the Robert Allen fabric.
10. This ottoman could double as seating and a coffee table but will not take away attention from the stunning sofa because of it's clean lines.
11.You would think a transparent table lamp would be boring, but with the modern shape and barrel shade this lamp can work for many years to come.

I'm feeling the yellow and gray right now... what do you think?

Old Houses

Hi, it's been a whirlwind couple of weeks and I've been very busy.  To top it off I had to ship my laptop to be fixed so no blogging for me.  I've attended my nephew's high school graduation (it's amazing how time flies, it felt like I was just watching him take his first steps yesterday).  I've driven 2500 miles through 9 states in the past two weeks. I now need a vacation from my vacation.

One of my stops was Poughkeepsie, NY located in the lower Hudson Valley.  They have amazing homes and a lot of them are over 100 years old.  Are you drawn to a older home or new construction?
Here are some of the homes I liked, do you like any of the ones below?

Using Fabrics in Design - Robert Allen

I'm always very hesitant in using any patterned or colorful fabrics when a decorate a room.  When the wrong fabric is selected the results can be disastrous.

Look how the fabric transforms these Sarah Richardson room.

Aren't these wing chairs from C R Laine scrumptious?  The fabric actually makes the regular wing chairs extraordinary pieces of furniture.

If you scared to select fabrics for your home, Robert Allen has created a design studio.  It gives you numerous combinations of fabrics that work really well together.

Here's a sampling of what the design studios offers:

Are the combinations great?

Luxe for Less - Custom Sofas

Buying a custom sofa is normally an expensive purchase but it's always worth it.  Not only can you get the sofa you want, the fabric selections are endless.  Now you can purchase a custom sofa for really inexpensive price from Custom Sofa Design.  They also design custom beds too.  Here's a sample of the pieces that they create.

Doesn't this Perla Sofa look comfy and with a starting price of $699 it won't break the bank.

This Xanadu Bed is not only funky it's also very contemporary.

I love a tufted sofa, and the Metropole Sofa definitely delivers.

Who wouldn't want a custom sofa in their house?

Bedroom Makeover Part V - Progress

I'm slowly making progress on my bedroom makeover.  I still have my dresser to finish and the final accessories to choose but I think I'm well on my way.
Remember where I started out.

After painting, adding my chandelier, changing my linens and acquiring a couple of pieces of new furniture, here is the current room.  What do you think?
